Chickens love to take baths, not in water, but in dust, no shower cap or bathrobe needed! Dust baths are a necessity for chickens to keep feathers and skin clean. It's their natural non-polluting cleaner. The thorough shaking and feather ruffling after bathing dislodges dirt, dander, insects and feather flakes. Using this powder encourages preening. Preening releases new oils that spread over the feathers to keep them in good condition and also weatherproofs them. When baby chicks can vernture outside they are mature enough for a dust bath. A heavy-duty plastic tub with a lid makes an idleal box. It can be moved easily. Left open on sunny days, it an be closed or moved into the coop during inclement weather. Be sure the box or tub is sturdy as the ladies often perch on the side waiting for their turn. For happy and healthy chickens give them continual access to dusting bath facilities
